People are getting more and suspicious about political institutions and their work. The tensions between religious and ethnical groups increase. Latin American countries are becoming less ready to help each other when we need solidarity to resolve our social, economic and environmental problems.
Plataforma C believes that Jesus Christ calls us to serve in all areas of our lives, including in the political sphere. The Bible does not offer and is not a political program. However, its basic teachings provide the fundamental elements for a just goverment. There is a call for the political authorities to work in this spirit and serve all Latin American countries, on topics like the protection of life and family. We recognize that we cannot identify God’s Kingdom with any political cause, but we believe that Gods’ Kingdom demands the pursuit of social justice and the promotion of a good and just society.
The platform includes Christian democratic parties and social-Christian parties, NGOs and think tanks in Latin America. We join to promote a Christian perspective of democracy, because in our continent and the nations that compose it, we are facing big problems. The conservative-liberal individualistic approaches and technocratic social-democrat are unable to give an appropriate answer or to produce robust solutions to these challenges.
We want to promote the Christian political perspective in the XXI century, because it affects individuals in their relations with community and our joint responsability for society. We are convinced that Christian politics can generate solutions and contribute to the wellbeing of Latin America people.
The New Christian Politics have come to Latin America.
“Christian politics is important in Latina America because it provides values like social justice, protection of life, family values.”, Carlos Enrique Balma, former Chancellor of the Curia, Archdiocese of San José.
“Plataforma C is necessary because we need people with spiritual wisdom in government positions.”, Mario Redondo Poveda, former President of the Parliament of Costa Rica.
“We are convinced that Christian principles contain the necessary elements for the construction of appropriate national policies in all the countries of Latin America.”, César A. Zúñiga Ramírez, National Restauration Party, party secretary.
“It is very necessary to have a kind of supranational organization with Christian values to implement, motivate, and give follow up to the initiatives and training of these Christian leaders.”, Juan Edgar Picado Fernández, International Attorney.
